How it all started

Welcome to the heart of Smiling Hills Artisan, where a lifelong passion for sewing and painting has blossomed into a creative journey of self-expression and craftsmanship. From a very young age, probably 5, I started sewing with a needle and thread, embarking on a lifelong love affair with sewing that spanned intricate wedding dresses to delicately smocked baby garments.

In the early ’90s, a move to Illinois became a pivotal chapter in my artistic evolution. A dear friend shared the magic of basic brush strokes, igniting a newfound passion for painting. Self-taught and fueled by curiosity, I began my exploration into the world of painting, a journey that took an unexpected turn when I started painting jars for a catalog company. This experience birthed my unique style, blending exquisite detail and scenic beauty on various textures.

The culmination of a lifetime of artistic endeavors led to the creation of Smiling Hills Artisan, a venture born out of love and a desire for new adventure after retirement. Nestled in the picturesque hills of West Virginia, my home-based studio is dedicated to producing finely crafted items that have garnered accolades, earning Best of Show and numerous first-place prizes at State Fairs.
